Iron & Sulfur Filters

Iron and sulfur are common problems that we run into in this area. The North Mountain in the Cumberland Valley is notorious for these two, pretty much from Enola to Fort Loudoun, though this problem is found many other places as well.

Our Iron and Sulfur filters work by oxidizing the iron and sulfur in the water, which causes it to precipitate to a solid which is then filtered out in the media bed.  These filters are regenerated with a material called potassium permanganate, which restores the media’s ability to oxidize the iron and sulfur.
